The ASU is seeking expressions of interest for our Campaign Skills/Uncap Our Councils Training.
We are running courses on 4 August and 1 September.
The training is one full day at the ASU office in Carlton South. This is authorised (paid) trade union training under your EBA.
Members will receive critical skills to become effective campaigners in the workplace and your community, and at the end of the day, we will visit Parliament House to conduct some lobbying with local members of parliament.
We have successfully run this training twice already, and members have reported it is some of the best training they’ve ever had – some advised they were a little nervous about meeting with an MP (member of parliament), but afterwards, everyone has said they would love to do it again!
In the lead-up to the November State election, ASU members are pressuring the Victorian Government for changes that will provide high-quality local services, secure jobs and decent pay rises.
We will need all ASU members to stand up to demand local government workers are valued and respected, and having fully trained campaigners in workplaces will be critical.
We will also be arranging opportunities for ASU members who are interested to meet with their local MP or election candidate to discuss the importance of local government services, and our Campaign Skills Training will give you the tools you need to be effective and persuasive in those meetings.
If you are interested in participating in this training please contact Acting Assistant Secretary Ty Lockwood at email@example.com to confirm your place.
