ASU Active Ageing Update No. 5 @ Boroondara City Council

Council have proposed to withdraw from Active Ageing. We met with affected members on 22^nd March 2022 to seek their feedback.

ASU submitted member feedback to Council on 23^rd March 2022. You can view letter here.

We received a response from Council who refused to provide all relevant information we requested, and advised if we are still in dispute, they will request the assistance of the Fair Work Commission to resolve the matter.   You can view that letter here.

We have written to Council confirming that matter remains in dispute.

Campaign Update

The Council meeting is on 11^th April and will be voting on a decision to exit council run aged care services. This meeting will be held in person, and we will be encouraging all members, their family, and friends to attend.

The ASU wrote to Mayor Jane Addis and Councilors inviting them to be briefed by the ASU on the benefits of continuing direct service provision of in-home aged care.

The Mayor has declined our invitation despite having a responsibility to be informed about the benefits of staying in aged care vs the consequences of getting out!

The ASU has knowledge and experience that would have contributed positively to the decision-making process as we have with mayors at other councils.

We hope that councilors will choose to take up this opportunity and meet with us.

Campaign activities are underway, including street and shop handouts of the hard copy petition.

We are pleased that every person who has taken our flyers have confirmed they support our campaign and are angry that council are proposing this change!
