The ASU was advised yesterday of the outcome of the Enterprise Agreement ballot conducted last week. The ASU understands that significant pressure was put on City of Ballarat employees accept council’s offer.
Sadly the vote approved managements proposed agreement, effectively ending the negotiations and any intention to engage in industrial action.
Clearly ASU members followed the unions’ advice to vote No, and you can be proud of the demonstration of resolve, and the determination to improve the working conditions and entitlements of members. That’s what Union members do.
As the ballot was a democratic process, it will now go through the approval process with the Fair Work Commission. Once approved by Fair Work, it will apply to all employees.
This enterprise agreement provides some improvements for workers at the City of Ballarat. The outcome doesn’t secure great pay increases across all employees, but it has some improvements that cannot be ignored, with Employees on Band 2 being provided with another increment (2D) and improvements to leave, flexibility, workload management, dispute resolution, consultation, union rights, and automatic progression.
The ASU will keep fighting for better pay and conditions at the City of Ballarat and we will achieve further gains in the next enterprise agreement.
