Did you hear that the ASU and delegates met with CEO John Baker and management representatives on the 19 March to discuss council’s position regarding the future of Council provided Aged Care Services?

It is critical that ASU members have local representatives. Nominate someone in your team today to ensure your workforce is kept up to date.

At our  meeting we made it very clear that we are committed to continue to fight to keep Aged Care Services in council. We expressed our concerns regarding the inferior conditions for workers in the private sector and highlighted the poor care  currently being exposed through the Royal Commission into Aged Care.

John Baker has advised the ASU that the council’s decision to commence the Request for Proposal (RFP) process was in response to the Commonwealth Aged Care Reform and that funding had only been secured until 2020. He stated that the process allowed council to investigate other service providers in the market and options available. He advised that council was not  under any obligation to accept any of the applications received through the RFP process and  that they have not made any decision at this stage as to whether they will continue to provide services internally or to outsource.

ASU informed council that we understood that  funding would be extended past June 2020. An extension to funding to June 2022 was announced a couple of weeks later..

The RFP application process closed on 30 April 2019 and the ASU have requested an update on council’s position. Council has committed to the ASU that your union  will be thoroughly engaged throughout this process and we will be meeting with the management on a regular basis.

Our last members’ meeting was held on 11 April 2019. At this meeting we discussed the content of Mornington’s RFP document and we provided an update on the commitments made by council.

We are committed to keeping our members informed and up to date throughout this process.
