While many people have been holidaying the ASU members have been working to bring community and political support for council home care services and workers together.
The ASU has members in diverse industries united for a stronger voice for workers. We have been using that strong voice in the interest of council home care workers.
We believe that subcontracting is bad for care, bad for the community, and bad for workers.
Together with members who work in home care, branch secretary Lisa Darmanin has met with ministers, MPs and other community leaders to make sure the voices of members are heard.
Right now Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay councils are considering tendering our council home care services. They will make decisions at their next Council meetings but there is still time to show there is strong support for keeping essential aged care services at council.
You can help to push back against tendering out of council services by sending a message to the mayors of Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay.
