Why accept lower wages and conditions at Moyne?!
03 June 2026
Recently, your CEO gave an update to staff on what is currently being negotiated, including a proposed offer of 3% over a 4-year agreement!
Real wages of council workers have already gone backwards more than 7% over the past 5 years. Receiving 3% pay increases will only see that get worse, given inflation is over 4% and minimum wage earners just received a 4.75% increase!
If this offer is accepted, you will be locked into that agreement for 4 years! Meanwhile, more and more other regional council employees will be joining the Multi Enterprise Agreement(MEA) and reaping the benefits.
Most of the 'negotiated' outcomes your CEO talks about do not apply to the majority of staff, either. Salary sacrifice, transfer station tea breaks being paid in lieu of a break, etc. What’s in it for you??
Fortunately, there is another (far better) option!
Every month, more regional councils vote to rope-in to the Regional LG MEA. These councils will now maintain current conditions while providing anything better in the MEA (like a 9-day fortnight for all full-time workers, industry best redundancy entitlements, and dozens of other excellent clauses that help protect and improve your wages and conditions)!
The first step to unlocking these benefits is rejecting any single EBA offer your CEO puts in front of you, and then
signing the ASU petition here.
When a majority of Moyne Shire employees have signed this petition, we can apply to force Council to join the superior MEA. It’s that simple!
Share the petition to your coworkers and encourage them to join you and thousands of other regional council workers in demanding better!
