Support Council Workers’ Strike Action on Wednesday 17 June
16 June 2026
On Wednesday, 17 June 2026 ASU over a thousand ASU members at 8 Metro Melbourne Councils will take historic strike action to secure fair wages and improved conditions.
ASU members will be meeting at Trades Hall Council at 10:30am for a barbecue and marching down to rally at the Victorian Parliament.
Workers, union members and community supporters will be attending in solidarity with these striking workers. Ensuring a massive turnout is vital to securing a good deal, which will help lift the entire local government sector.
Not part of the 8 councils but want to show your support?
The best way to show your support is to attend the rally if you can. A reminder that the ASU do not recommend workers take sick leave to attend, however of you are not working on Wednesday, or can take other forms of leave we encourage you to come along.

Are there other ways I can show support?
If you are unable to take leave to attend on Wednesday, or live too far away, there are other ways that you can show support.
You can donate to the ASU strike fund, which is providing support to striking workers who are experiencing financial hardship.
Details on how to donate to the fund are available here.
You can also take a solidarity photo with your fellow union members on the day of the action. If you send the photo to the union office, we can share it on our social media channels.
