Members win better outcome in roster review

02 July 2026

After a protracted period of consultation and sustained advocacy led by ASU delegate and members, we are pleased to share a significant and positive outcome in a roster dispute at a Melbourne crisis centre.

Two years ago, the employer sought to introduce substantial changes to the roster that would have had serious impacts on service delivery and staff. These proposals included significant cuts to rostered hours and closure of the day service.

Members made it clear that these changes would not only undermine working conditions but also compromise the service’s ability to meet fluctuating demand and provide consistent, quality support.

Through ongoing consultation, advocacy and collective action, members successfully challenged these proposals and negotiated a member-favoured roster. The win means the day service will remain open, no cuts to the roster and a revised roster schedule that is more fit for purpose, better reflecting the fluctuating workload demands of the crisis service.

Congratulations to those involved in this tremendous effort and win!
