MVCC’s Enterprise Agreement updates – too good to be true?

16 February 2024

This week, management emailed you about your enterprise agreement negotiations. They said that they were “pleased to be able to share good news of our progress.”

Unfortunately, we have to ask the question: what progress?

Here are the pay increases that management have offered you so far:
  • DECEMBER 2023:
    • 2.25% or the rate cap in the first year
    • 2% or rate cap in all other years
  • FEBRUARY 1, 2024:
    • 2.75% in the first year (this is the rate cap, i.e. no change from their first offer)
    • 2% or rate cap in all other years (no change)
  • FEBRUARY 15, 2024:
    • $51/week increase in the first year (this is a 2.9% pay increase on average – less than 0.3% change)
    • 2% or rate cap in all other years (no change)

Perhaps they’re trying to leave room for our other claims? Not so.

They have told us that their most recent offer is conditional on us dropping all other costed claims:
  • NO 9-day fortnight
  • NO improved sick leave
  • NO end-of-band payments

What can you do now?
  • Stay engaged, and keep talking to your coworkers and delegates. Keep each other informed.
  • Stay hopeful – we told management today that they have to do better. We won’t move on with negotiations until we have improvements on these claims.
  • Recruit members – Management are already aware of your union power. We’re stronger together. Ask a co-worker to join the ASU to get a better deal on your enterprise agreement. It’s easy to join at https://www.asuvictas.com.au/VICTAS/Join
