International Family Drug Support Day

14 March 2024

The ASU, along with our Alcohol and Other Drugs Delegates, participated in the International Family Drug Support Day at Parliament House.

This was a great event aimed to shed light on the pressing issues surrounding drug use and provided a platform for meaningful discussions.

It featured distinguished speakers, including Ingrid Stitt, the Minister for Mental Health, Minister for Ageing, Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Chris Christoforou, CEO of the Victorian Alcohol and Drug Association, and people who have experienced the profound impact of drug-related issues within their families.

Passionate stories were shared, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive measures such as drug checking and the establishment of a second supervised injecting room in Melbourne.

These stories served as powerful reminders of the challenges faced by our community and reinforced the importance of advocacy and support ASU members undertake every single day.

Many of the issues presented today have been discussed in the ASU’s Mental Health and AoD network. If you would like to be part of this growing network of advocates, please email ASU Organiser Kerman Daruwalla at [email protected]
