Hobsons Bay MEB update – new Protected Industrial Action & Rally
20 July 2026
Following consultation with ASU members at Hobsons Bay City Council, the ASU has notified Council of the commencement of new Protected Industrial Action measures.
You can find a copy of the latest notice here.
These bans will cause service disruptions to cleaning, responding to requests for action and CRMs, the delivering of training to new staff and contractors, library services, road maintenance and parks and gardens work.
This builds on actions that have continued since April 2026 including wearing campaign clothing, distributing campaign material, writing on Council vehicles and a ban completing work from the office that can be performed from home unless working from home.
The April notice can be found here.

ASU members call for rally at next Council meeting on Tuesday 28 July
It’s time to increase the local pressure on management and Councillors. The MEB Councils have not yet agreed responded to the ASU pay offer or committed to an interim pay rise for July 2026.
Only by holding them to account can we ensure a fair deal within a reasonable time.
The rally will commence at 6:45pm on Tuesday, 28 July, just before the beginning of the Council meeting.
