Corangamite Shire Council Enterprise Agreement update

27 March 2024

The ASU Bargaining team met with management last week to bargain for a new enterprise agreement. Two meetings have occurred in recent weeks, at which all bargaining parties presented their log of claims.

The ASU is represented by ASU Lead Organiser Zoe Edwards and your delegates Ashley Ryan and Jeffrey Mason. Georgia Birch, your new ASU organiser will also join the team at the next meeting.

Other unions are also represented at the bargaining table, as well as several independent bargaining representatives.

The ASU has strongly advocated for a fair pay increase that keeps pace with the cost of living. Our claim is 9.5% or $85 per week for a two-year agreement.

We have also put claims for:
  • End-of-band bonus
  • Christmas closure without loss of entitlements
  • Consistency of on-call arrangements across Council
  • Heat policy
  • Right to take leave in a natural disaster
  • Option of a 4 day work week and more
Management has provided preliminary responses to ASU claims. Management’s current position is that Council cannot afford wage increases beyond 2.75%. They have indicated a willingness to discuss conditions and agree to improvements. This is early days in bargaining and there is a long way to go and lots of detail still to work through.

The ASU will be holding members' meetings to discuss the claims and what members can do to improve Council’s wage offer. ASU members are permitted to attend these meetings in paid time.
