Corangamite Shire Council Enterprise Agreement Update

31 May 2024

The ASU Bargaining team met with management yesterday to continue negotiations.

After meeting with members yesterday morning, the ASU put forward the endorsed counter-offer of 5% or $60 per annum for 2 years.

Management responded with a revised wage offer of 3.25% per annum for 3 years with no baseline $ figure. They have communicated this is their best and final offer and indicated that they wish to put the agreement to a vote.

Management advised that the CFMEU, who did not attend the meeting, would not advocate a no vote in any ballot.

The ASU advised the Council that putting the agreement to a vote is premature and there are unresolved drafting issues. We have clear instructions from members about the wages position and would on that basis recommend a no vote. Other unions and bargaining representatives will also recommend a no vote.

As for the remainder of the claims, the ASU maintained pressure on management for matters including:
  • End of band payments;
  • Optional 4-day work week;
  • Sick leave pool policy;
  • and more.

However, we were able to agree on claims including:
  • Parental leave of 17 weeks for primary and 4 weeks for secondary carer;
  • Disciplinary clause;
  • and more.

The bargaining parties are scheduled to meet again on 13 June to continue these negotiations. We must maintain there are several claims to be resolved before the parties are willing to agree to finalising the agreement and having it put to a vote.
