Corangamite Shire Council ASU EA update

23 April 2024

The ASU bargaining team met with management on Thursday 18 April 2024 to continue negotiations in relation to all parties' log of claims.

The ASU is represented by your ASU lead organiser Zoe Edwards and organiser Georgia Birch alongside your delegates Ashley Ryan and Jeffrey Mason, who was an apology on Thursday. Other unions are also represented at the bargaining table.

The ASU has strongly advocated for a fair pay increase of 9.5% per annum or $85 per week, whichever is greater. The management's current position on this claim is that they cannot afford a wage increase beyond 2.75%. Further, they have expressed concerns surrounding the implementation of a flat pay increase (dollar figure in addition to %) that would provide a better increase to those earning a lower income.

We consider this is not reflective of the cost-of-living increases and other external factors. We encourage members to continue to have conversations within your workplace regarding these issues to ensure we have a strong force behind the fight for a fair and equal outcome.

Nevertheless, we have seen management agree to increase certain entitlements to make for a fairer workplace such as an increase in parental leave available and the introduction of exceptional circumstances leave that provides for matters such as leave in the event of a natural disaster such as fire and floods. Management have also expressed they are open-minded about our claim for the introduction of a heat policy.

What’s next?

The next meeting of the bargaining committee is next Wednesday. The ASU will continue to push for our wage claim and conditions improvements. We will continue to work through the detailed proposals from management and discuss detailed ASU claims. We will keep you updated on the progress of this work.

We’re stronger together. Ask a co-worker to join the ASU to get a better deal on your enterprise agreement. It’s easy to join at https://www.asuvictas.com.au/VICTAS/Join
