Ballarat City Council - remember to vote NO on 18 March

18 March 2024

I
am contacting you regarding City of Ballarat’s decision to put the enterprise agreement to a vote of workers. This week, workers will be asked to vote on whether they support the new enterprise agreement.

We encourage you to vote no to the proposed enterprise agreement.

This enterprise agreement is not supported by the Australian Services Union – the local government union. It is the ASU’s view that bargaining has not finished, and this vote is premature. If the workforce votes no, the council will be forced back to the bargaining table to negotiate a better deal.   Management have rushed this agreement to a vote and refused to provide unions and workers with key documents such as a track change document identifying the changes in this enterprise agreement. It raises the question, what are they trying to hide?

The ASU is most concerned that this enterprise agreement will lead to a cut in real wages. In a cost-of-living crisis, you deserve better than the current offer. Ballarat City Council has the lowest wages of any major regional centre and other growth Councils.   For example, Wyndham City Council pays approximately $150 more per week than Ballarat City Council for workers on Band 3 employed in waste, childcare, leisure and parks & gardens.

We encourage you to vote no and bring management back to the bargaining table for a better deal. Voting opens today, 18 March and closes 25 March.

We’re stronger together. Ask a co-worker to join the ASU to get a better deal on your enterprise agreement. It’s easy to join at https://www.asuvictas.com.au/VICTAS/Join
