Sign the petition to Parliament to have CFA PTA staff included in Presumptive Rights
01 May 2025
The ASU is lobbying the Victorian Government to amend legislation so Country Fire Authority PTA staff are protected.
We’re asking all ASU members and supporters to sign our petition here.
The ASU represents PTA staff, who make up the vast majority of the CFA’s workforce.
The
Presumptive Rights Act currently covers career and volunteer firefighters, as well as vehicle and equipment maintenance employees. However, there is a gap meaning Professional, Technical and Administrative (PTA) employees are not included in the scheme.
We know that many of these workers stand next to other workers covered by the scheme on the fireground. They experience the same exposure to smoke and chemicals while carrying out their roles at the CFA.
We need to close this gap.
ASU CFA delegate Simon Lund was a tireless campaigner for the rights of CFA workers over many years and an active ASU delegate.
Simon sadly passed away in May 2025 following a diagnosis of stage 4 oesophageal cancer as a result of his exposure to carcinogens at work. He wasn’t covered by the scheme and was forced to go through the regular Workcover process.
Before he passed away, Simon was leading the fight to get the law changed, so that all PTA workers will be covered in the future.
Tracie Lund, Simon wife’s continues to work on this cause that Simon was so passionate about.
Simon and Tracie have shared their story here.
We urge all ASU members to sign our petition and to share this petition with your colleagues and friends, and on social media.
Every single signature is crucial.
We know that Simon is sorely missed by his family, friends, comrades and co-workers. He touched the lives of so many.
We can all support Simon’s legacy by backing this campaign.
