CFA District Mechanical Officers endorse settlement

14 March 2024

After 12 months of industrial action, ASU members employed as District Mechanical Officers by CFA have endorsed a proposed settlement position.

Former Fair Work Commissioner Julius Roe chaired a conciliation between the parties, and issued a recommendation on the outstanding matters. This recommendation will see DMOs get:
  • 3% annual pay increases
  • A lump sum payment of $5000
  • A ‘patience in bargaining’ payment to compensate for the delay in reaching agreement
  • A new living away from home allowance
  • The introduction of pay points within bands, with all staff to commence on pay point 1, then progress to pay point 2 on 1 July 2024
  • Inclusion of a new provision for alternative workwear
  • Superannuation on unpaid parental leave
This is a big win for these critical workers, and a long overdue outcome after a long industrial campaign. None of it would have been possible without the outstanding work of our amazing ASU Delegates at CFA. They have built a legacy that will benefit workers long into the future.
