A message from Tash Wark, Branch Secretary – July 2026

01 July 2026

The 2025/2026 Financial Year has been exciting for the ASU team and our members. With active campaigns across our coverage and higher retention of our existing members, we’re proud to report an over 4% increase in membership.

The great work by the ASU team, delegates and members is reflected in the impressive list below for the last 12 months:
  • Over 21,000 calls to our Member Engagement Team
  • Negotiated 67 Enterprise Agreements
  • Held numerous rallies, mass meetings and actions to defend community sector workers’ pay, leading into lodging our FWC case and campaign to recognise Work Value
  • Held the biggest industrial action Victorian Local Government has ever seen, with 8 metro councils bargaining together, and more to join, including Wyndham
  • Finalised bargaining for the first ever Local Government multi-employer bargain (MEB), between Central Goldfields and Ararat, with members across regional councils voting to rope in!
  • Started the process for the first ever Tasmanian MEB, with Waratah Wynyard and King Island members, Vic Water MEB and Libraries MEB
  • Held successful delegates conferences across Victoria and Tasmania
  • Won industrial action ballots and took action across both states and all industries including Coliban Water, Derwent Valley, Barwon Asset Solutions, Central Goldfields, Brophy, Thorne Harbour, CFA – PTA Staff and most recently Parks Victoria
  • Had 112 cases in the Fair Work Commission, including, 30 Unfair Dismissals and 19 Protected Action Ballot Orders
  • Trained numerous ASU delegates and HSRs

We’re not done yet! We are committed to growing our collective power to deliver better wages and conditions to ASU members like you. Your active membership goes a long way towards running an effective, growing union. Myself and all the Elected Officers are proud to stand with members through all the activity above and more, we hope you share our pride in being ASU!

Tax statements
Our membership team are busy preparing for the end of financial year. So that your tax statement is correct when you do your tax, we’ve turned off the tax statement function in the member portal for now. We’ll email your tax statement to you directly in the second week of July, which you can then claim as a work expense.
