ASU Achieves Key Wins in Citywide Bargaining

27 October 2024

After four months of negotiations, ASU delegates have secured several significant wins for Citywide workers. A major victory is the inclusion of City of Port Phillip waste contract employees in the new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA). This means these employees will now receive EBA wages and conditions for the next three years, even if Citywide’s waste sale is approved by the ACCC.

Citywide has also agreed to trial Rostered Days Off (RDOs) in more departments and will maintain existing RDOs—a boost for flexible working conditions. Workers on the Moreland Council waste contract will also be reclassified from Band 3 to Band 4, improving their pay.

ASU members have rejected Citywide’s proposed pay increase—3% in years one and two, and 2.75% in year three. ASU has demanded a minimum of 3.5% in the first two years and 3% in the third, with back pay to 1 July 2024.

Other bargaining successes include increased leave for primary carers (from 12 to 14 weeks) and partner carers (from 2 to 4 weeks), a gendered violence clause, improved overtime rates for Christmas and New Year’s Eve shifts, and an increase in casual loading from 20% to 25%.

ASU members are standing together to secure the best possible outcome, with ongoing discussions focused on achieving fair wage increases.
