The Australian Services Union has lauded the decision not to privatise childcare centres across Bayside City Council.
ASU Assistant Secretary Richard Duffy said that the current system implemented across Victoria is one of the best across the country and clearly has no need for change.
“At a recent council meeting, Bayside City Council voted to defer contracting out of its childcare centres to a private provider.”
“The ASU congratulates council on their change of heart. As a union, we have always said that local government-run centres provide the best standard of childcare and this vote certainly vindicates our view on the current system."
“The ASU and parents in the area worked hard to convince council that privatising childcare was not in the best interests of children, their parents or the employees across the council who do such a fantastic job.”
“ASU members look forward to working with council to make sure they continue to provide high quality childcare to the residents of Bayside now and well into the future.”
