COB employees reject latest EBA offer

Determination and solidarity has prevailed after City of Ballarat employees voted NO in a landslide to the sub-standard Enterprise Bargaining Agreement offer put forward by management, according to Australian Services Union Organiser Dave Beckley.
The decision by members means that management at the City of Ballarat will have to come back to the ASU with a better offer or face further industrial action from employees, with work bans in place over the past few weeks.
“The outstanding issues of the current EBA offer include the level of pay for all employees and conditions for the lower-paid workers at the City of Ballarat, who are also among the lowest paid in the state. There were also in-principle agreements in previous EBAs that management have reneged on,” said Beckley.
“Management have sought to undermine and divide hard-working members of the council on a number of fronts, including threats of legal action and a refusal to negotiate in good faith with the union on a fair EBA
outcome.”
“The Council have tried every trick in the book to split membership and attempt to cause in-fighting among our members, which has clearly failed. Every member should hold their head high after their vote and know that when workers stick together they can achieve anything.”
“We now request the CEO enter into negotiations on the outstanding matters as soon as possible, because the community does not have to unnecessarily be inconvenienced by the council refusing to negotiate any longer.
“The ASU and its members are willing to do whatever it takes to reach a fair and reasonable outcome for our members. The ‘no’ vote is also a fantastic result for our hard-working delegates.”
Industrial bans are still effective and will not cease until members meet and vote on a fair and reasonable outcome for all.
